Corned Beef and Cabbage may not be the most traditional Irish recipe but it is one of the most commonly thought of meals for St. Patrick’s Day. Started by Irish immigrants, corned beef was a cheap substitute for bacon, the traditional ingredient used on Irish soil.

Boxty is a hearty traditional Irish dish that can be eaten as a side or a main, any time of day. It originated in the 1700s and is fairly easy to pull together. Ingredients include mashed potatoes, grated potatoes, flour, milk, and baking powder, served with sour cream and onions.

Irish lamb in a flaky crust with vegetables and spices, was traditionally used to keep shepherds full and energized for the arduous job of herding. Now, the pies are eaten for their delicious, savory ingredients and their tendency to warm the soul and satisfy the need for a filling meal.
