The Coldwell Banker brand has been around for over 116 years. Following the devastating 1906 earthquake in San Francisco where over 80% of the city had been destroyed, a young real estate professional, Colbert Coldwell saw an opportunity. While many real estate salespeople were taking advantage, purchasing properties and reselling at a large profit, Coldwell sought to do things differently; ethically. The original company that Coldwell formed was Tucker, Lynch & Coldwell. Later, Benjamin Banker joined Coldwell, and eventually, the company was transformed into Coldwell Banker.

Coldwell Banker was the first real estate agency to use a code of ethics, holding tightly to the principles of honesty, integrity, and service. Today, the values of Home, Awesomeness, Ingenuity, and Excellence are held highest.

Led by CEO M. Ryan Gorman since 2020, Gorman led the rebranding of Coldwell Banker into Project North Star, developed CBx listing technology, elevated and rebranded the Global Luxury program, supported St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and dedicated Coldwell Banker to diversity and inclusion, earning the Women’s Choice Award and launching the Inclusive Ownership affiliate program. Gorman has held several positions within Coldwell Banker and has proven himself as a forward thinker.
